Sophie Taeuber-Arp

"Dada ne signifie rien" – Tristan Tzara

Sophie Henriette Gertrude Taeuber-Arp (1889–1943) was a multi-disciplinary Swiss artist and is considered one of the most important artists of the 20th century. She worked in painting, sculpture, textile design, architecture and dance. However, her work, described as concrete, rhythmic geometric art, only became well-known after the Second World War. From 1995 to 2016, she appeared on the 50-franc note, the only woman to appear on a banknote at the time.
